What We Do

Supporting Transitions to Employment for Parents (STEPS)

Supporting Transitions to Employment for Parents (STEPS)

Program Overview

Supporting Transitions to Employment for Parents (STEPS) is a family centered coaching program that provides additional support to Head start families. STEPS helps families remove barriers in their lives that prevent them from becoming  self-sufficient.  By enrolling them into a training program, we help parents earn a certificate or receive a credential, which will optimally lead to long term employment or a career. STEPS is a program for Head Start families with children from 0-5 years old. It is an opportunity for parents who are unemployed or underemployed wanting to explore careers in high demand fields, and complete job training programs, and/or education opportunities that fit them.

Vision

The vision of Head Start's STEPS program is to be a catalyst for inspiring positive change and fostering hope in children, families and the community.

Eligibility

Head Start parents, including those with disabilities, are eligible for enrollment. Head Start accepts applications year-round, and fills vacancies from its waiting list as they occur. While children from low-income families have enrollment priority, children from higher-income families may be enrolled as well.

Demecia Brewster, Head Start & STEPS Parent

"The Head Start STEPS program worked for me. I was able to enroll into CAA’s Child Development Associate (CDA) program allowing me to earn my CDA certification, leading me towards long-term self-sufficiency. I am truly grateful"
